Course Overview: 
Ideal and non-ideal optical fibers, transmission characteristics of optical fibers, optical sources, LED and laser sources, modulation formats, direct and external modulation, optical detectors, optical amplifiers, noncoherent and coherent optical receivers, wavelength division multiplexing, system performance. Prerequisites: EE 261 and 251 and preceded or accompanied by EE 243 and 225.
